Caroline Munro Interview – A Special Episode of the Official Talking Pictures TV podcast

I’m hardly alone if I say Caroline Munro was one of my first crushes. The beautiful model and actress starred in some of my favourite films as a boy – The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, my first James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me, At the Earth’s Core. These days Caroline Munro is still fantastically busy on the festival circuit and has gained new fans and old ones as the host of The Cellar Club on Talking Pictures TV. She introduces mostly horror and science fiction films and television, with a smattering of thrillers too, as well as answering viewers’ letters.

I’m a regular on the Official Talking Pictures TV podcast and we have been keen to interview her for a while. It took a bit of organising but thanks to Mel Byron, who works with Munro as a researcher for The Cellar Club as well as being a writer and comedian, we managed to arrange a date. Sadly it coincided with the production run of Woman in Mind, in which I played Dr Bill Windsor, so I was unable to attend the recording, but I did get a question answered about her 1988 horror film Faceless aka Les Prédateurs de la Nuit.

Caroline Munro is a great interviewee and Scott Phipps and Mel Byron some marvellous new stories from her, as well recollections about popular films like Captain Kronos, Dracula 1972AD, and her time as a face of Saturday night TV as the co-host of the elaborate ITV quiz show 321.

  1. How?! How?!!! HOW could you possibly have missed this interview because of a theatre production you were in? This is what understudies are for, man! I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve been to a show and heard the announcement “For this evening’s performance, the role of so-and-so will be played by the understudy because the main actor is off interviewing Caroline Monroe.”
